Hank Williams Jr has a new number 1 fan in Sara Palin

CMT.com has reported that Sara Palin has tracked down Bocephus’s and asked for his support, but got a little more out of the deal.  It seems Bocephus and Palin have planned to hang out and go moose hunting.

Sarah Palin Calls Bocephus
It took a week for her to track him down, but vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin finally spoke with Hank Williams Jr. on a cell phone. Right off the bat, Sarah told Hank that she had all his albums. “Huge fan,” she said. She also told him that she’d appreciate any help he could give her and Sen. John McCain.

“I hunt moose,” said Sarah.

“I hunt moose, too,” he replied. “I have a house in Montana.”

The vice presidential candidate and the country star agreed to hang out and do some moose hunting together. In the meantime, Hank will be performing Monday (Oct. 13) in Virginia Beach, Va., to open a rally featuring McCain and Palin.

Josh Turner is a great singer, and I’m happy to see he’s in this business. But it’s going to continue to swing back and forth from pop to country.”

Waylon Jennings’ Album Finally Complete

Shooter Jennings finally completed work on his late fathers album titled Waylon Forever.  It will be a collaboration between Waylon and Shooter with Shooter’s band the .357’s  The project was started way back in 1995, and was only finished recently when Shooter went back to the studio to record tracks for Waylon’s vocals.  The first single will be Waylon’s hit “Lonesome, On’ry and Mean”.  You can get a sneak peak of the single at CMT.com.   The album is set for release on 10.21.08.

Being a Waylon Jennings fan for many years I can’t wait to hear the album.  “Lonesome, On’ry and Mean” is really well done, and I am sure the rest of the album will be also.  A website has been set up for the release of the album.  Although the site is not active yet I expect it to be just before the release date or on the release date.

Here is the track list for Waylon Forever:
“Jack of Diamonds”
“Outlaw Sh*t”
“Ain’t Livin’ Long Like This”
“Are You Ready for the Country?”
“Lonesome, On’ry and Mean”
“Waymore’s Blues”
“White Room”
“I Found the Body”

What happened to country music?

George Jones

George Jones

What has happened to the traditional country music sound? I remember when I was little and the music I heard then can not be compared to the new pop country. Granted there are still a select few mainstream artists that still stick to the traditional country sound. Now to some of the artists that make country music a joke. Artists like Toby Keith (Granted he is one hell of a song writer), Trace Adkins (He should be a rapper, even though he did have a few decent songs early in his career), and Kenny Chesney (Wow I just don’t know where to start with him).

Then there is this guy called Kid Rock, I don’t even know what genre he is anymore. He’s done rap, rock, and even tried country which he has totally screwed up. But in the middle of his country spurt he some how became Hank Jr’s son, or at least that’s what half the nation thinks. Which makes me think of a line in a Hank III song called Not Everybody Likes Us that goes just so you know so its set in stone, Kid Rock don’t come from where I come from. Ya its true he’s a yank he ain’t no son of hank if you thought goddamn you’re fucking dumbass. Haha, I laugh every time I hear that line.

Well it seems like all I’ve done is gripped about stuff, now lets get to some mainstream artists that have tried to keep the traditional sound around. Artists like Alan Jackson (Truly a living legend), George Jones (His name says it all), and Merle Haggard (One of the last of his kind, the poet of the common man). Then there are hundreds of artists that have yet to make it to the big stage, but help keep traditional country alive. Without these men and women the traditional country music sound just might die.  Don’t get me wrong now I could list many, many more.

One relatively unknown artist I would like to mention is Davey Smith. Check out his website and listen to the 3 songs he has available on his site, then after you like what you hear order his cd. I have the luxury of knowing him personally, and he is true to his music. He is on the road doing a radio tour right now so keep your ears open for him on your local station.

Tips from the Top: The Making of the Beatles’ “Please Please Me”

With the release of the Cirque du Soleil soundtrack compilation album Love, Beatles fans (who never seem to grow tired of hearing the same old songs arranged in a brand new way) once again have yet another carefully conceived product to add to the collection. As good a time as any, in fact, to take a trip back 44 years and recall how it all began when Liverpool’s finest entered Abbey Road Studios and committed their very first album to tape—in just under 12 hours.

Richard Langham still remembers the first few hints of pre-Beatlemania filtering through the halls of London’s otherwise all-business EMI recording facility. “It was a freezing cold day,” says Langham, the former EMI engineer who now runs a London-based import business. “We were outside getting all the Beatles’ gear out of the van to bring into the studio. I noticed these bits of paper falling out of the backs of the amplifiers — little folded notes that the girls had thrown on to the stage that they’d read and then tossed into their amps! I knew right then that this was going to be a very interesting time.”

With their second Parlophone single, “Please Please Me,” closing in on the top of the U.K. charts, producer George Martin hastily scheduled recording time for the purpose of assembling the Beatles’ first long-player. Years of incessant gigging had made the Beatles a solid live act, but it wasn’t until Monday, February 11, 1963 that Martin and the rest of the staff at EMI realized just how good John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr really were. By the end of that day, Please Please Me — the album that would officially launch British Beatlemania — was ready for release.

Beginning at 10 a.m. with the tricky two-part vocal harmony of “There’s a Place,” the group proceeded to knock out nine additional songs in under 12 hours, among them “I Saw Her Standing There,” “Baby It’s You,” “Misery,” “Chains” and “Anna,” leading up to the grand finale: John Lennon’s historic rendering of the Isley Brothers’ “Twist and Shout,” completed in a single larynx-shredding take just before 10 p.m. It mattered little that Lennon was nursing a bad cold and spent the day downing throat lozenges in order to keep up the pace. “I don’t know how they do it,” remarked producer Martin near the end of the marathon session. “We’ve been recording all day, but the longer we go on, the better they get.”

Please Please Me — and nearly every other Beatles work that followed — took shape inside Studio Two at EMI Recording Studios, a former nine-bedroom, early-19th century residential dwelling located at 3 Abbey Road in London’s St. John’s Wood district (and later renamed for the street the Beatles made famous). Opened in 1931, EMI housed three separate recording rooms, each with high ceilings and ample floor space typical of the era. “All of us engineers really got to know that room, its little nuances and characteristics,” recalls Langham. “For instance, we could tell someone who’d come in to record some tymps, ‘A little lighter on the sticks there,’ because we knew that corner of the studio was a bit too live.” Read More
